There are no educational requirements for home inspectors in this state at this time, however home inspectors are required to inspect for wood damaging insects and must have a Structural Pest Inspection License (SPI).
At a minimum an inspector will need to pass an exam, license their company, provide WSDA proof of financial coverage, and have a valid drivers license.
SPI Exam:
On August 1, 2007, WSDA will implement a new Structural Pest Inspector (SPI) exam. This exam is the result of a cooperative effort between the home and pest inspection industry, Washington State University and WSDA and was developed in conjunction with a new training manual.
Applicants will be required to pass two exams in order to qualify for the SPI license. There will be a 100-question general knowledge exam and a 50-question practical exam.Although WSDA does provide magnifying lenses for the practical exam, you are encouraged to bring your own high quality hand lens. As with other WSDA exams, the passing score for both exams is 70%.
