Rhode Island Trade practice act enacted in 1996
The law in Rhode Island forbids home inspectors, pest control inspectors, and contractors from doing work on property that is inspected prior to real estate sales. The law was passed to help eliminate activities that could present a conflict of interest.
Licensure enacted in 2000 (Chapter 65.1)
Rhode Island law creates a home inspector licensing law and requires that all home inspectors be licensed. Home inspectors would be required to maintain $250,000 of liability insurance, pass the National Home Inspector Examination, and abide by standards of practice and a code of ethics.
NOTE: This law is currently not funded.
